Lookwide Walk 2013

22 December 2013

To All Beavers, Cubs and Scouts (and families)

I am writing to invite you to take part in our annual Lookwide Walk which we run over the
Christmas break. This year the walk will take place on Sunday 29th December 2013 starting
at 12 noon (prompt) at the Railway Inn in the village of Fourstones (near Hexham).

The walk is open to all beavers, cubs and scouts (and families) – the perfect chance to walk
off the turkey dinners from Christmas and Boxing day!

All beavers, cubs and scouts taking part will receive a certificate, woggle and badge (the cost
for these will be £4.00 per beaver/cub/scout which is payable on the day).

The walk follows the original route taken by scouts making their way to the first scout camp
in 1908 at Humshaugh (near Hexham) (although we walk mainly on tarmac rather than
through muddy fields!) The walk itself is about 2 miles each way.

All participants should bring a packed lunch with them as we’ll be stopping for something to
eat at the half way point, before walking back, and should have appropriate clothing and
footwear. Everyone must also be wearing their neckerchief. At the site of the first camp
site all beavers, cubs, scouts and leaders will follow the tradition of renewing their promise.

There’s no need to book a place – just turn up on the day at Fourstones and take part! But
obviously it would be good to know if you’re thinking about coming along
